Staff Highlight: Tim

This month we are proud to highlight Tim. He is the manager at our Portland SuperThrift Store:

My name is Tim Knecht. I was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley in the Los Angeles area. I was brought up in the Christian faith and went to the Van Nuys Church Of Christ for most of my life. I have 2 beautiful children. Both my son and daughter are adults now and still live in the San Fernando Valley. My mom who is also lives in the San Fernando Valley.  For many years I had issues with alcoholism. On September 21st, 2013 God answered my prayers and helped me quit drinking alcohol.

This year I am so happy to say that I am still not drinking alcohol and September 21st will be my 12 year anniversary of sobriety. In 2018 I met my second wife Melissa. Melissa and I got married in 2021 and are very happy together.

For my professional side of my life, I started climbing the corporate ladder many years ago and have been in management for over 25 years. I have worked as a Warehouse Manager, Front End Grocery Manager and a Retail Thrift Store Manager.  For the last five years or so I lived in Arizona and was the Kingman Goodwill Store manager. My wife Melissa was born in Portland and wanted to move back to Portland because her family lives in the area. We started to look for jobs last year. I applied for the Assistant Manager position at the Portland SuperThrift store and was hired in mid January of this year. Then about three weeks ago I was offered the Store Manager position at the Portland store. I really enjoy working for Adult & Teen Challenge and love seeing how this program changes lives for the better. Thank you for your time and God Bless!!

Student Highlight: Jeff

This month we are proud to highlight Jeff, he completed the Foundation (one year) program in June:

God is amazing and it shows through my testimony. My name is Jeff Madman, I am 23 years old, I am Native American, and I was born on a reservation in Browning, Montana, part of the Blackfeet nation. I had a pretty rough childhood, my parents had me at a very young age. Growing up, I did what I wanted and seeing what my parents did at a young age, made me curious and I would grow up doing the things I saw like fighting, smoking, drinking, doing pills, going to parties, having bad relationships with girls.

I never went to church growing up, but I always had people around me who had a Bible. I thought I would try the Bible, but I didn’t know how to read, so I left it alone. When I was 12 years old, my dad and mom split up and from there I moved back and forth between my parents’ homes. They both were doing drugs, so I would run off and do my own thing.

When I was out of high school, my mom asked me for help, I could not help her because I couldn’t even help myself. She said that some people were after her and her life was in danger, this was the last time I heard from her. Then 11 months later, I got a call at my work, it was my mom, she wanted me to come and see her. She was happy, talking about how God saved her life, she was sober, and God changed her. I went to see her; God saved her and used her to draw me closer to Him and He saved my life and changed me.  My mom completed her program as a student and an intern and now God is helping me become an Intern.

He is renewing my life, He restored my relationship with my mom, He restored my mom’s life, and He restored my life.  We were both lost in the dark and now are children of God, we are being the light in the dark, sharing the Gospel and my mom and I are full of the Holy Spirit, we are both still serving God and we are both sober.  When I came into the ATC program, my mom was still in her program, and we got baptized together. I thank God for blessing me and my mom with that opportunity, God truly renewed and changed my life and those around me.
