“The opportunity to serve at the Annual Spiritual Emphasis Retreat for Students and Staff of the Adult & Teen Challenge PacWest last September was one of the best things that could ever happen to me. I had been wanting to serve beyond my church, so when I received the request for foodservice volunteers, I replied right away—even though it meant flying from Hawaii to Antelope, Oregon. It didn’t matter that I didn’t know anyone! While volunteering at the retreat, I met amazing people willing to serve joyfully! Our crew of eight worked at Sarsaparilla’s, the “snack shack,” and received training from two incredibly patient staff members. The experience was much more than I expected. The time spent serving our God together was truly meaningful and rewarding.”
