Ministry Friends,

Last month we celebrated an amazing weekend of Easter.  From Good Friday to Resurrection Sunday - so much can happen in three days. I would say it’s the same at the campus. Our Good Friday tradition for the past 6+ years has been setting up a Last Supper style family dinner table complete with table linens and flowers. This sets the tone for an evening of worship and a message delivered each year by a different staff.  This year the message was spoken through a staff member who shared a chapel, here was a part I wanted to share with our ministry family of supporters….

“More than likely, Simon had other things to do that day rather than get personally involved in Jesus’ scandalous crucifixion. His own plans and agenda were interrupted when he was given an order to carry the bloody cross for Jesus. It was hard work, bloody, and humiliating, but he carried the cross for Christ and walked with him in his most difficult hours. In doing so, he became part of the greatest story to go down in history.

What a powerful example of what Jesus had taught not long before. Even more significant is that what Simon was forced to do, Jesus did willingly. He subjected himself to public mockery, severe beatings, and one of the most horrific deaths the world has ever come up with. As the Son of God, he didn’t have to endure anything; he wasn’t a prisoner of the Roman soldiers any more than he allowed himself to be. Even in those last excruciating hours nailed to the cross, he could have opted out. But Jesus understood his suffering was not about him; it was the only way to restore sinners like you and me to our loving heavenly Father.

God doesn’t force us to follow him either. He doesn’t put the cross on us but asks us to pick it up willingly. Our decision will cost us something; there’s heavy lifting, rejection, and personal interruptions. It will cost us everything. The only way to get the life we work so hard to protect is to give it back to God and trust him to take care of it.”

And on the Third Day He Rose again - thank you Jesus!  On Sunday we enjoyed service, fellowship and brunch at Kings Circle Church in Corvallis and came back to enjoy family visitation and free time followed by traditional ham dinner.  It was a memory maker for these men.  We hope you enjoyed your celebration as well!

Outreach

We are visiting homeless neighbors each month sharing the Gospel of Jesus with a PB&J sandwich and water.  This has been meaningful to current students in the program and we are planting seeds of hope in the community.

Intern Appreciation: Brian

Brian is over halfway through his Teen Challenge Ministry Institute Internship.  Brian came in for a Restoration after the world brought him to a halt and he knew he needed something different this time.  You see Brian has been around Adult & Teen Challenge for many years, both as a student, intern and even a staff at one point.  He would share that in all those times and years that he never fully surrendered his life to God’s will for him.  Recently he has been in a Job-like season, but is seeking to do the next-right-thing knowing that God’s goodness and mercy will follow him all of the days of his life.  Here are a couple verses from a song stirring in his heart as he is working through a valley…

You’re such a good shepherd, I got all I need

But still I must ask you, don’t take this cup from me.

Whether it’s the green pastures, or the still waters I seek

You restore my soul Lord, don’t take this cup from me.

I walk in deaths valley, darkness is all I see

In this Garden of Gethsemane, you prayed don’t take this cup from me.

You bore my cross Lord, you took my suffering

You prepare the table, in front of my enemies.

It started in Eden, all this suffering.

The Good Shepherd drank the cup for me.

We appreciate Brian’s push forward to root deep with Jesus and surrender to Him daily.

Student Testimony: Harley

"Hi, my name is Harley.  I have been soul searching my whole life for TRUTH.  Mind you, I have believed there is a God, how could you not believe just by seeing His awesome creation.

My problem was I was addicted to the world and the evil that had followed.

I am an Alumni of ATC and this is my 4th restoration, but there is something different this time! Jesus has gotten my attention!"
