Campus Updates

Spring in Alaska -- you never know what you’re going to get. It's the in between season: It could be sunny and 55 degrees, or it might snow 18 inches overnight.

I think that’s a lot like our spiritual journey towards our eternal home with God, and it definitely represents the work we do at Adult & Teen Challenge. Just like nature, we are in the “already, but not yet” season.

The finished work of the cross has made us righteous! The book of Ephesians tells us we are already seated in heavenly places. But yet, we still live in a fallen world and we still wrestle with sin.

The art of discipleship to Jesus is learning how to put to death the sinful nature inside us and instead follow Jesus. As the men in our program start that journey (and all Christians really), they are like Spring in Alaska -- already, but not yet.

April is a time we focus on the resurrection of Jesus! We got to baptize multiple students on Easter Sunday! What a wonderful thing. All of heaven rejoices over one sinner who repents!

Last month was a huge amount of change for the Alaska HUB (the combination of men’s and women’s campus, Life Renewal and SuperThrift store) that we are confident will make what we do better.

But how many of us know that change is not easy!

We changed software providers that we use at a campus level for just about everything, going from a system. We also changed our student schedule around quite a bit. It’s going to create more time in the classroom, where so much discipleship takes place. The change has also added more free time for the students, without compromising Life Renewal, SuperThrift experience or our Outreach efforts!

This change has impacted everyone: Students, interns, campus staff, our Life Renewal team and our thrift store. I'm proud of our students, and our team of dedicated staff at the Alaska HUB that have embraced these changes and learned so much in a short period of time to ensure things keep moving forward! We truly have an incredible group of people that are all working towards discipling our students. I am grateful for such a wonderful group of people.

We celebrated our first Open House! Multiple alumni dropped by, as well as friends of the ministry, to hear about what’s going on here. It was a good time to connect with everyone and see the Lord working in the lives of those who have come and gone from this place. We hope you’ll plan to join us in future Open House events, as we will continue to host them quarterly.

Staff Highlight: Ryan M.

Ryan M. - Program Coordinator

Maybe he looks familiar from the cover of the Spring 2024 edition of the Good News Report! Ryan is a graduate of the Adult & Teen Challenge men’s campus here in Alaska, and now serves at the center God used to change his life!

Ryan is a shining example of the work God does here everyday. He works hard to provide leadership and care to the campus and students. His testimony is an encouragement to our current students, that if God can heal and change Ryan's life, He can do it for them too!

Campus Needs

We are going to be expanding our bed capacity, going from being able to provide care to 18 to 30 men. This will take finances as we remodel things and purchase furniture to make this possible. If that’s something you’d like to help with, please reach out - we’d love to hear from you!

Thank You!

Thank you for caring about this ministry. Our staff work very hard to love our students to wholeness. Your prayers, thoughts and financial support are so vital to us in that process.

“How will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they’ve never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!’”

Your support enables us to do this Gospel work to people who desperately need it! Your support is quite literally ‘sending’ us. Your giving is the Lord's work. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Randall Wilber

Alaska Executive Director
